JAMMU, July 6: Patients admitted in the Super Specialty Hospital in Jammu today had a close shave after a fire broke out inside battery room on the first floor of the multi storey building.
Soon after the fire broke out thick blanket of smoke covered the CT scan room and threatened the safety of the patients admitted in the nearby wards on the floor.
Acting swiftly the hospital staff rushed the patients admitted in the nearby wards to the ground floor and also alerted fire brigade staff to rush to the spot.
As chaos and confusion prevailed, the patients and their attendants ran helter skelter to safety.
On their arrival in the hospital complex, the fire brigade staff struggled their way towards the source of the fire.
According to Medical Superintendent, Super Specialty Hospital, Dr Ramesh Gupta, the fire was noticed at about 6.15 pm and it took fire brigade authorities over half and hour to contain the fire before it took ugly turn. In the fire, all 36 UPS batteries gutted completely.
The immediate cause of fire was not known but the hospital authorities have directed the hospital management to conduct the internal probe to ascertain the circumstances under which fire broke out inside the battery room.
