Sir,
The devastating floods of September last year severely affected our infrastructure besides causing huge loss to life and property. Five months have passed since flood damaged Sher-i-Kashmir bridge at Poonch river but the repair work is going on at snail’s speed. District Administration has declared the area adjoining to Sher-i-Kashmir bridges as Red Zone and issued orders restricting the construction in the marked Red Zone. This step undertaken by the District Administration was very necessary keeping in view the huge loss due to devastating floods of September 2014. A task force be constituted to carry out raids to check illegal construction near and around the bridge.
We urge the concerned Flood Control authorities to channelize water of Poonch river in a more technical way. Concrete protection walls be erected both side of the river banks so that during floods overflow water gets an easy passage for its smooth flow. Flood Control Department should prepare time bond plan for the construction of dams, otherwise, crores of rupees spent on the construction of the bridge shall go waste.
Yours etc…..
