SRINAGAR, Apr 3: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar has called for making academic courses relevant to the market demands and the fast-changing economy so that educated youth don’t have to wait for jobs.
Mr Akhtar said with the liberalization of economy, the demand of skilled manpower has increased manifold. “Courses to be taught in educational institutions need to be technical and divergent enough to cater to the changing economy,” he said and added that the Colleges should take maximum benefit of the Centrally sponsored schemes like community colleges, Khushal Kendras etc which promote such vocational education with substantial grants from the Central Government.
During his maiden visit to the historic S. P. College here, Mr Akhtar impressed upon the college faculty to think out of box and start introducing job-oriented courses in the institutions of higher learning. He enjoined upon the teachers to perform their crucial role towards the realization of the objective of making J&K a real knowledge society.
The Education Minister directed the college authorities to infuse new spirit into the functioning of the college. Terming the Choice based Credit System a historic academic opportunity, the Education Minister impressed upon the College Principals to motivate the students towards learning Arabic language and work towards value-addition that will enable them for lucrative jobs in the Middle East and elsewhere.
The young faculty members should get actively involved in the process of preparation and submission of proposals to the relevant funding agencies such as the UGC, RUSA and Department of Science & Technology for augmenting the infrastructure of colleges, the minister added.
The Minister assured the deluge impacted college of his full support towards achieving a complete restoration.
