JAMMU, Apr 25: Chandigarh University Gharuan has announced dates for its National level scholarship-cum admission test (CU-SAR 2014) for the Engineering students.
Under CU-SAT 2014, 300 Engineering seats in the field of Computer Science, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication, Civil, Electrical, Petroleum and Automobiles would be offered to the students passing out their 10+2 examination with Non-Medical stream.
Details regarding the test were announced by R S Bawa, Vice-Chancellor of CU- Gharuan, while addressing a press conference, here today.
“The scholarship amount of Rs 9 crores has been earmarked to be offered to the meritorious students who will qualify in the test, which is to be conducted by the Chandigarh University at 58 centers all-over India from June 1, 2014 onwards,” he said.
Giving further information on CU-SAT 2014, Dr Bawa said that a national merit list would be announced on June 15, 2014, in which all India rank of the students would be generated, based upon their performance in the test and an equal weightage given to 10+2 examination board results.
“The test for Engineering students will be a one-hour on-line examination based upon Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and General English subjects,” he further informed adding that CU-SAT 2014 would offer 100 percent scholarship to first 150 toppers while the next 150 in merit would be given 75 percent scholarship.
According to Dr Bawa, the on-line registration process for CU-SAT 2014 has already begun on the official website of Chandigarh University and last date for the registration is May 25, 2014.
“For the students from Jammu and Kashmir, the Chandigarh University has formulated a special scholarship scheme under which any student securing 80 percent or more in 10+2 Board examination, would be offered course fee waiver upto 50 percent,” Mr Bawa said adding that there were more than 1500 J&K students at the CU.
The Vice-Chancellor informed that the Chandigarh University has also drafted a policy under which some seats in all streams would be reserved for the wards of Armed and Defence forces along with provision of scholarship upto 15 percent in the course. This scheme would benefit students from Jammu region where a sizeable number of defence personal is residing, he explained adding that financial assistance in the form of scholarship for SC/ST, OBC, Physically handicapped and sports personal has also been announced under which the university would provide fee waiver .
Informing that more than 457 multi-nationals have so far offered 45000 placements to the Chandigarh University students and companies like Microsoft, IBM, Infosys, Tech-Mahindra, TCS have been regularly visiting the campus for mass recruitment, Dr Bawa said that J&K students are ought to reap benefit while studying at CU-Gharuan.
