RAJOURI, Apr 19: Chairman District Development Council, Rajouri Choudhary Naseem Liaqat has urged Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to re-open historical Mughal road for general public and vehicular movement.
In a statement issued here today, Liaqat said that closure of Mughal road is causing difficulty to the inhabitants of district Poonch, Rajouri and other areas which includes trade, Medical emergencies and frequent movement of the people.
He said that people of Rajouri and Poonch especially, patients and students are suffering most with the repeated closing of an important highway which links these two districts with the Kashmir valley as the shortest route. It has been weeks now, when snow clearance on Mughal Road was completed, despite that authorities are still not allowing vehicular movement on this major route.
“The people of Pir Panjal region lack tertiary care health facilities due to which they have to travel to Kashmir valley to avail treatment options and for getting their sick admitted into health institutions. People from Kashmir as well as from Pir Panjal region want to travel in a hassle- free manner using this alternative connectivity. If the road remains closed, hundreds of patients who get themselves checked in Srinagar, fail to get treatment, ” he added.
He said on humanitarian grounds, the LG’s Administration must try its best to keep the highway functional in all weather conditions for the people of Rajouri and Poonch and to ensure that the students freely travel to Srinagar and other parts of valley to pursue their academic or professional studies. The highway has become a source of economic development for many and easy trade with the districts of Kashmir in less time”, Naseem added.
