SRINAGAR, June 11: A meeting was held here under the chairmanship of P.K.Tripathi, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, (SASB), to review arrangements for weather forecasting for the ensuing Yatra.
The meeting was attended by Jitendra Kumar Singh, Additional CEO; Sonum Lotus Director, IMD Srinagar; and Mohd. Hussain Mir, Scientific Assistant, IMD Srinagar.
Sonum Lotus Director, IMD, informed that an X-Band Doppler Weather Radar having a range of 100 Kms has been installed at Srinagar, and has been providing reliable weather forecasting.
It was informed that a webpage indicating weather conditions through satellite imagery will also be uploaded, exclusively for Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2015, with effect from June 20.
CEO, SASB stressed the need for timely and advance provision of weather trend and critical weather conditions. Director, IMD informed that the weather related SMSs will be circulated among all the officers connected with Yatra arrangements, containing sector wise weather forecast like Jammu-Banihal Sector, Banihal-Srinagar Sector and so on.
The forecasts are based on the observatories of IMD located at Jammu, Batote, Banihal, Qazigund, Pahalgam, Srinagar. He further informed that Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) will be established at Chandanwari, Sheshnag, Panjtarni, Holy Cave and Baltal during the Yatra period. In addition, IMD will also put up LED based weather display Boards at Baltal and Nunwan Camps.
CEO stressed the need for accurate weather predictions so that the Shrine Board could take timely decisions to stop the movement of pilgrims, if that becomes necessary. He also mentioned that the intending pilgrims may also visit IMD website: www.amssdelhi.gov.in/ www.imd.gov.in for receiving prior information about the weather conditions before embarking on Yatra.
