SRINAGAR, June 3: The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has received Rs 500-crore infrastructure grant from the Government of India for the expansion of its Tulmulla campus, Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath announced today.
Addressing a press conference at the university campus, Prof. Nath said the funding would support the phased development of academic and research infrastructure, including new academic blocks, laboratories, skill development centres, innovation and incubation hubs, recreational facilities and other student amenities.
The announcement comes as the university gears up for admissions to the 2026-27 academic session and expands its academic portfolio following approvals from key regulatory bodies.
Prof. Nath said the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved several programmes for the upcoming session, including B.Tech courses in Civil Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering, M.Tech programmes in Structural Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, besides MBA, BBA and MBA in Travel and Tourism.
He said the university’s BA LLB and LLM programmes have received approval from the Bar Council of India (BCI), while the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has approved its Integrated Teacher Education Programmes (ITEP), including BA B.Ed. and B.Sc. B.Ed.
Highlighting academic reforms, the Vice-Chancellor said the university has redesigned curricula across departments in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The revised programmes focus on multidisciplinary learning, skill development and employability, while integrating elements of the Indian Knowledge System and human values, he said.
Prof. Nath said the university has also introduced measures to ease the financial burden on students.
These, he said, include a credit-based fee structure under the Academic Bank of Credits framework, allowing students to earn credits through recognised online platforms and partner institutions.
He said financial support has been expanded through tuition fee waivers, the Student Assistance Fund (SAF) and the Earn While Learn (EWL) scheme. Under SAF, up to 40 per cent of students can avail fee concessions on a merit-cum-means basis, while students enrolled under the EWL scheme can earn up to Rs 4,000 per month, subject to a maximum of Rs 12,000 per semester.
Speaking about admissions, Incharge Directorate of Admissions Dr. Arif Nazir Zargar said postgraduate admissions for the 2026-27 academic session are underway across disciplines in humanities, social sciences, sciences, education, law and engineering.
He said online applications have also been invited for PhD admissions in 21 disciplines, including Biotechnology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Education, English, Information Technology, Law, Management Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Tourism Studies and Urdu. The registration process will remain open until June 17.
