JAMMU, May 2: Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai today inaugurated the first of its kind ‘Centre of Excellence on Antimicrobial Resistance’ at the SKUAST’s Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Shuhama.
This centre has been awarded to SKUAST-Kashmir by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi with initial financial assistance of 25 crores. The other dignitaries present on the occasion included Dr Irfan Robbani, Principal SKIMS Bemina Srinagar, Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, Professor Convener JK Research Consortium, Dr Naveed Nazir, Head Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar, Dr Shaldana Head Gynecology, SKIMS Bemina, Dr Irfan Qadri from SKIMS and Scientists from IIIM Srinagar, Kashmir University, IUST, Central University of Kashmir and various constituent Units of SKUAST Kashmir.
On the occasion, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai said that the centre will act as a place to monitor advanced drug resistance surveillance using artificial intelligence, development of rapid diagnostic procedures, and exploration of alternative drug regimens. In addition to this, the centre will also facilitate training and education programs for health care professionals, veterinarians and agricultural workers, he added and urged upon all Medical Science scientists to develop a roadmap similar to Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) for transforming the health sector of the region.
On the occasion, other invited guests deliberated on the AMR and the One Health. Coordinator Centre of Excellence on AMR. Dr Mudasir Andrabi also spoke on the objectives and the envisaged impact of the Project.
