Central team takes stock of PDS

UDHAMPUR, Oct 28: To examine the functioning and monitoring of Public Distribution System (PDS) in the district, a team of Central Vigilance Committee (CVC) on PDS headed by Member of Research Team, CVC, Mohinder Singh visited Udhampur and convened a meeting of officers of Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CA&PD) and other concerned departments at Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner Office here today.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, P.K Pole, Deputy Director CA&PD, P.K Koul, Members of CVC team on PDS comprising, J.C Uprety, J.K Bhutani, Monika Kohli, Rozina Afzal, Deputy Registrar Cooperative, Vikas Verma, Assistant Director CA&PD, Ghar Singh and other concerned to the CA&PD Department were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner appraised the members of Research Team, CVC on Public Distribution System, about the capacity of stores in the district, tehsil wise number of families and souls and quota of food grains, shortfall of food grains, staff strength of CA&PD Department. The DC disclosed that regular market checking was also initiated in the district and 92 challans were also issued during the market check.
Later, a public hearing was also conducted by the CVC team in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Surat Singh in which ration card holders, representatives of Fair Price Shops Dealers’ Associations, Sarpanchs, Panchs, NGOs, representatives of Transporters and others took part.
During the hearing, many problems being faced by the people were listed including timely distribution of ration, enhancement of quantity of ration, special supply of ration during festival days, issuance of new ration cards, proper check over quality and pilferage of food grains, enhancement of dealer’s commission etc.
The team patiently heard the problems being faced by the people and assured them to represent the same to the concerned quarter.
