Ceasefire suggestion not acceptable: BJP

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 10: While clarifying its stand BJP today said that it tooth and nail opposes the ceasefire as proposed by some leaders during the all parties meeting at Srinagar and later endorsed by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti while talking to media.
Talking to reporters here, today BJP chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi and its spokesperson Arun Gupta said that party has not endorsed this view and BJP’s stand is clear on the issue as it does not want that the Army’s efforts should be washed away and situation which was contained by security forces after a great struggle should deteriorate again.

Maintaining that BJP is not in favour of unilateral ceasefire at all, its spokespersons said that no such decision has been taken in the meet. A suggestion came from one leader in the meeting but the same was not endorsed by BJP leaders, said Sunil Sethi, adding many such suggestions can come in this regard but it does not mean that the BJP has endorsed  them, he added.
He said “ we are in complete disagreement and the Chief Minister can’t pressure us on this. It is not going to do any good. The Army’s operations to neutralize militants have been successful’’, Sethi added.
Speaking about the BJP-PDP Agenda of Alliance (AoA), Sethi said it was being implemented but talks with Hurriyat and Pakistan did not take off because the other party was not responsive in creating an atmosphere conducive for talks.
Sethi said Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s visit to Pakistan in December 2015, just before the terror attack on Pathankot IAF base, underlined how serious India was about talks with Pakistan. “We can’t appeal to the Centre to go down on it’s knees. Talks can take place when both parties are on equal ground’’, he added.
Arun Gupta said it was the MLA Langate, Engineer Rashid who made such a suggestion but every one knows that his narrative is altogether different than BJP.
He, while strongly opposing the mercy to stone pelters said that BJP is for stern action against them. “Our party president, Sat Sharma told in strong terms in the meeting that stone pelters were given the chance earlier and showing mercy to them again is not good. We gave them chance but they did not mend their ways as they are playing in the hands of some vested interests so strong action needs to be taken against them’’, he added while quoting Sharma.
Gupta said BJP also criticized the Kashmir centric parties who were blaming Centre for every thing despite the fact that the Union Government has rendered all cooperation to State in restoration of peace and normalcy.
He said “we told them in unequivocal terms in the meeting what else Centre can do which has been solidly behind you as they provided you all help and support’’. “We made it clear to them that you are only talking about normalcy and how situation can be normal when the political workers of your parties don’t work on ground and don’t move outside their houses’’, he added.
