JAMMU, July 10: A delegation of Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI) Jammu led by president Arun Gupta met Showkat Aijaz Bhat, Commissioner State Taxes Department, today in his office chamber and raised several issues concerning business community of Jammu region.
Anil Gupta (senior vice president, CCI Jammu), Rajeev Gupta (junior vice president), Rajesh Gupta (secretary) and Rajesh Gupta (treasurer) were accompanying the CCI Jammu president. Nitu Gupta, Additional Commissioner State Taxes Department was also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Arun Gupta informed the Commissioner State Taxes Department that at the time of introduction of GST the business community was told that this is a good and simple tax but now some officers of the department have complicated this GST as they are involved in imposing huge penalties to the traders on some minor technical issues.
Gupta also raised demands of reimbursement of GST to the industrial units pending for more than two years, extension of VAT Amnesty Scheme, enhancement of limit of GST E-way bills from 50 thousand to 1 lakh and release of securities of traders that were registered with the Department in VAT regime.
Stating that the State Taxes Department is engaged in penalizing the assesses who have already deposited the actual tax amount within time but could not file their returns timely, he requested that these assesses be granted suitable time to file their returns without any penalty.
“Taking into consideration the geographical conditions of the J&K, the expiry of the E-way bill should not be taken as expiry but the transporters having genuine E-way bills should be given some extra time to reach their destination, as they are unable to reach their actual destination in time due to some unavoidable circumstances,” he said and demanded extension of the period to file GSTR-10 , extension of date for filling of reimbursement claims for the fourth quarter and abolishment of GST on small ‘Dhabas’.
The Commissioner State Taxes Department assured the Chamber team that all the points raised by it are well taken and he will ensure that no trader is harassed undue. He also informed the Chamber team that the industrial units will get the GST reimbursement amounting to Rs 36 crores within next 2-3 days.
