3 militants killed in Anantnag

Srinagar, July 10: Three militants were killed in an encounter at Kawarigam village of Achabal in Southern district of Anantang today.
Acting on a specific lead, joint teams of police, Army’s 19 RR and CRPF laid a siege at village Kawarigam in Achabal area.
When they zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering a gun-battle.
In the initial exchange of fire, two militants were killed while the third one continued to engage the security forces from different locations. Later, third one was also killed.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that all three slain were affiliated to Lashkar outfit and one of them identified as Arif Hajam, was involved in the killing of a Territorial Army soldier on June 6, 2019. Arif is a resident of Sadoora, Anantnag.

“The other two slain militants were identified as Basit Ahmad from Telwani, Anantnag and Suhail Ahmad from Pulwama were killed in an encounter in Kwaripora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district”, he said.
Police requested the people to stay away from the encounter site till the area is sanitized. Today’s encounter was sixth in a row in South Kashmir in the past 11 days that saw the killing of 15 militants including two top commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.
Security forces today found and defused an old shell at Khag forest area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Security forces received information that an old shell is lying in the forest area of Habber, Lasipora.
The teams of police and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) reached the spot and defused the shell.
A woman was arrested with two grenades in Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
An official said that during cordon and search operation in Bangdara Kreeri a lady resident of Hajin was arrested along with two grenades and an amount of Rs 47, 000.
