JAMMU, Apr 10: Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Jammu, today expressed serious concern over non-serious attitude of the Government with respect to the burning issues being faced by the business community and asserted for uniformity of taxes.
In a meeting held here today, CCI president, Rakesh Gupta, said if the genuine demands submitted to the Finance Minister during the pre-budget discussions, were not addressed and taken to a logical conclusion then the State of J&K shall be soon in turmoil again.
He said the CCI Jammu has decided to extend non-cooperation to the Commercial Taxes Department from April 15 till their genuine demands for uniformity of taxes as in rest of India are implemented.
He said that the Chamber also supported the demands of the various Transport Associations that the passenger vehicles should be exempted from paying Toll tax at newly constructed Toll Barrier at Bantalab Nagrota as it feels that taxing passenger vehicles further would force the transporters to increase the passenger fares as whatever taxes are paid to the Government, are ultimately recovered from the customers.
Gupta further cautioned the Government not to outsource the Toll Barriers at Lakhanpur and Lower Munda to the people from outside the State, as the Chamber feels that the local stakeholders have the first right to run these toll barriers.
The Chamber advised the Government that whatever Revenue Collection Targets are fixed for Toll at Lakhanpur and Lower Munda, preference should be given to outsource these barriers to CCI Jammu and Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Srinagar, respectively.
