JAMMU, May 21: Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu has strongly criticized State Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu on his remarks against new GST regime as adopted by the Union Government.
In a meeting of the Chamber held here today under the leadership of Rakesh Gupta, the members assailed the statement of the Finance Minister Dr Drabu that the J&K State shall not adopt the GST regime that was recently passed by the Union Government.
“The Chamber feels that such statement being issued by the Finance Minister unilaterally speaks of his high attitude. The Chamber also feels that the present State Government is adopting dictatorship attitude and not as a democratic. The taxes in the form of irrational VAT, service tax which are already on the higher side comparing PAN India are burning issues against which the Chamber is already agitating”.
The Chamber warned the Finance Minister not to come out with the excuses of special status but try to understand the problems of the trade and industry. It may not be out of place to mention that till recently the Finance Minister of J&K was heading the Empowered Committee and making such statements shall only deface the image of J&K across India. The Chamber has already warned that if their genuine pre-budget demands are not met, it may adopt the course of total non- cooperation and ask the business community not to pay any kind of taxes to the State. The Chamber advised and cautioned the Government to adopt positive track and arrange a meeting with Chamber of Commerce & Industry so that the matters are amicably solved before it is too late.
