SRINAGAR, Feb 25: The separatists have formed a Coordination Committee for the return of body of the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru who was hanged early this month in Tihar Jail. The Coordination Committee has chalked out a protest programme and called for general strike on Friday in favour of return of Guru’s body to his family for last rites.
Guru was hanged on February 9 and he was buried inside Tihar Jail. His family has asked for return of his body so that they can perform his last rites.
The Coordination Committee of separatist and religious organizations that include Hurriyat Conference (G), Hurriyat Conference (M), JKLF, Bar Association, Jamaat-e-Islami and Dukhtaran-e-Millat today met in Srinagar at an undisclosed place and issued a four day calendar of protests in support of their demand for return of mortal remains of Mohammad Afzal Guru and JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat.
The Committee has called for a Valley wide strike on the Friday, March 1. On that day, supporting the already announced JKLF programme, the Committee has asked people to peacefully protest after congregational Friday prayers.
The Committee has asked clerics to apprise people on the current situation apart from raising the issue of life and death imprisonments in favour of separatist leaders.
The Committee has asked Bar association to protest on February 27 against the hanging of Guru and in favour of return of his body.
The Committee has called for protests at district headquarters of South Kashmir Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama on February 28.
The Committee has also asked the people of Kashmir to attach red ribbons to their vehicles, shops and houses on March 2 as a mark of protest.
It has asked people to observe, Sunday, March 3 as a normal work day and keep shops and business establishments open.
