CBI arrests JA for taking bribe

JAMMU, May 25: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Superintending Engineer, PHE Mechanical Urban Circle, Narwal, Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500 from a retired employee for processing her pension case.

A statement issued by the CBI said the accused, identified as Mohammad Usman, was arrested following a complaint filed by a woman, who retired as Section Officer from the PHE Department, Udhampur, on April 30, 2026.
She alleged that the official had demanded money for clearing her pension-related work, it said.
The statement said that CBI conducted a discreet verification of the complaint and found the allegations to be genuine.
“During the verification, it also came to light that the accused had allegedly shared a QR code through WhatsApp for receiving the bribe amount digitally,” it said.
Accordingly, the statement said that a trap was laid by the CBI on May 24 in the presence of independent witnesses.
During the operation, it said the complainant transferred Rs 4,500 to the account linked with the QR code shared by the accused, who later acknowledged receiving the money.
Following the trap, the accused was arrested by the CBI today.
Meanwhile, further investigation in the case is underway.
