JAMMU, Oct 20: On the fifth day of fast unto death of all department casual laborers a massive protest demonstration was held at PHE Complex, B C road here, today by the Workers United Front.
A large number of casual laborers of various departments participated in the protest demanding immediate implementation of regularization orders in their favour.
Raising slogans in support of their demands the protestors said that they will continue fast unto death till the demands are met.
Accusing the Government of backtracking from their promises, the leaders of the Front said that they (casual laborers) were cheated by the Government and false assurances were given to them till date on regularization.
Akhil Sharma president of the Front while addressing the demonstrators said it is unfortunate that this Government in last six years failed to provide justice to daily wagers and despite making promises and giving assurances from time to time it failed to regularize their services.
He said the casual laborers who are the backbone of engineering wings in the State have been left in lurch by the Government with the result there is lot of desperation among these hapless workers who were left with no option but to take the extreme step.
Sharma said the fast unto death will continue till the goal is achieved as with the callousness of the Government towards the casual laborers we have been left with no option but to launch a do or die battle.
Satish Kumar general secretary of the Front while making a scathing attack on the Government said that in 2011 an announcement was made by Government regarding regularization of casual laborers and other temporary workers but till date the formal orders were not issued. He said that these casual laborers and other temporary workers are working in the Department for last 15 years and their future is now bleak as they have become overage after giving prime period of their life to serve the works departments.
Meanwhile two fasting leaders of the Front Tanvir Hussian its chairman and Ajay Kumar vice president were hospitalized this afternoon after their condition deteriorated and they started vomiting.
One fasting casual labour, Shahsipal was already hospitalized. They have been admitted in emergency of GMC for treatment. However to continue agitation three more casual laborers from R&B and PMGSY sat on fast. They included Ajay Dagotra, Yogesh Singh and Nitin Sharma.
