Caste census

Sir,
I have read an article in your esteemed Daily Excelsior News paper, dated 6-10-2021 titled ” Say No to caste Census in India.” The author has supported the view point of Govt of India submitted to Hon’ble Supreme Court of India that caste Census is a complicated and tedious exercise. It is for the information of all that caste census of SC/ST is continuing since independence but OBC census has been suspended. If Govt of India admits that there exists a section of society which is socially and educationally backward (OBC) for which special provisions have been enforced for its upliftment, why there should not be census of such section?
It is unfortunate that India could not eradicate caste system from its civil society even after seventy years of independence. We have failed to achieve casteless society. In my opinion , as far as there is disease, medicine should continue. Without census of cates, how Govt shall ascertain the sufficiency of measures taken to uplift the weaker sections ? Welfare measures cannot continue blindly unless gravity of deprivation is brought out through census. If caste system is still prevailing, then caste Census is also imperative.
