HYDERABAD, June 9: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today registered cases against suspended I Additional Judge for CBI Cases T Pattabhrama Rao and seven others, including two Karnataka Legislators, in the cash-for-bail case.
The ACB’s registered the cases following an order from the Andhra Pradesh High Court transferring the probe from the CBI.
The Judge had granted bail to Former Karnataka BJP Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, now in Bangalore Jail, on May 11 in the OMC Illegal Mining Case registered by the CBI here last year.
Apart from Mr Pattabhrama Rao, cases were booked against his son Ravi Chandra, Retired Judge Chalapathi Rao, Mr Janardhan Reddy’s brother and MLA Somasekhara Reddy and Karnataka Legislator Suresh Babu, Rowdy Sheeter, Yadgiri, Dasarathrami Reddy and Junior Advocate for their alleged role in striking a deal for getting bail.
The ACB has registered cases under various sections of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
Sources said ACB’s Central Investigation Unit would probe the case and the accused, including the judge might be arrested soon, they claimed.
Mr Pattabhirama Rao was suspended by the then Chief Justice of High Court Madan B Lokur on May 31.
The bail order granted by the Judge to Mr Janardhan Reddy was set aside by the High Court.
The CBI reportedly seized part of the bribe money from the bank lockers belonging to the suspended Judge’s son at Ashok Nagar here on June one.
Meanwhile, a release from ACB Director General B Prasada Rao said based on the orders of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, the CBI preferred a complaint to the ACB on which the Bureau registered a case today u/sections 120-B, 34, 109 & 219 of IPC and Sec 8, 9 & 13(1)(d) r/w 13(2) of P.C.Act, 1988 against the suspended Judge T Pattabhi Rama Rao and seven others.
Mr Rao said the ACB has taken up investigation in the cash-for-bail scandal.
