Cases of dislocated families being reviewed: Minister

JAMMU, Feb 5: Minister for Disaster Management Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Javaid Mustafa Mir today informed the State Legislative Council that he will personally examine whether 120 fake migrant families from Khan Sahib block of  Budgam were registered as migrants and if need be the probe will also be ordered into the matter.
Responding to the supplementary of Saif-ud-Din Bhat of PDP, he said “I will look into the matter personally”. He also asked the member that if he has details and names of the persons he should submit the same to Government.
The MLC said that 140 migrant families  were registered from Khan Sahib area in Budgam district out of whom  120 are fake.
The Minister also informed the House that the department would review case to case status of families of village Bore Keran, dislocated in the year 1990 for security reasons.
Replying to the question of Javid Ahmed Mirchal, the Minister assured that he will personally assess the status of these families vis-a-vis their employment status, present place of residence, the status of families/family members, status of their immovable property to address their genuine concerns.
The Minister said that, on the recommendation of 8th State Calamity Fund meeting held in the year 1992, the Government sanctioned relief package  for these families,  which included cash assistance, ration (rice 9 kg,  atta 2 kg to  per soul per month, sugar 1kg per family per month), hostel type accommodation/ tentage, free medical and civic amenities in the camps, free electricity and drinking water facility, Leave Salary and other benefits.
“The relief of Rs.1000 per family and ration as admissible under rules was paid to the families till May 2001,” the Minister added.
He said that the rentals of land and structures of the said migrant families under the occupation of Armed Forces are being paid since 1990 as per rates admissible under norms.
He further informed that one- time relief was sanctioned in favour of these families and disbursed as per the decision taken by the Government in July 2008.
Replying to the supplementary questions of legislators Zaffar Iqbal Manhas the Minister said that the Government would take a detailed review of the status of these dislocated families to provide relief and take steps for their rehabilitation.
