JAMMU, Feb 25: Three-week long “Winter School Training Programme for Capacity Building in Geospatial Technologies” was inaugurated by Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar, here today.
The programme has been sponsored by Natural Resource Data Management System, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi.
In his inaugural address, Prof Ishar said that the State of Jammu and Kashmir is bestowed with vast natural resources, tourism hotspots, highly rugged and colourful mountain, the mapping, management and information of all these are important as well as need of the hour.
Dr Samir Saran, eminent Scientist from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun delivered the plenary talk on geospatial technologies and said that India is changing and technology has changed the whole system in India and GIS plays a major role.
Prof M K Dhar, Registrar, University of Jammu also spoke on the occasion and said that GIS is the technology of the future.
Earlier in his welcome address Prof A S Jasrotia Head, Department of Remote Sensing & GIS and Coordinator of this program, gave the brief introduction about the program. He said that aim of this program is to generate the capacity building among the University and Colleges teachers regarding the Geospatial Technology and its application across discipline.
During these 21 days, lectures will deliver by the resource person/ guest faculty as well as the Faculty of the department.
Among others present on the occasion include, Dr S K. Khosa, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Prof Pankaj K Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to VC, Heads of Teaching Departments, faculty members, officials, Scholars and students.
