Callousness of PDD

The patent excuse, which PDD gives for crisis in supply of power, is that power is being stolen and huge losses are incurred on transmission.  We know that power pilferage is an old malaise and that obsolete wiring means loss in transmission. But that is not the whole story. We have come to know that the State Government was given an amount of amount of 550 crore rupees for improving the infrastructure and reducing losses. The objective was to streamline the entire power supply system and bring it on modern lines. In fact the entire plan of the Union Ministry of Power was to divide the R-APDRP into two parts. The Union Ministry of Power also gave detailed advice how the project could be implemented. But the PDD wants to appoint Project Management Consultant. Strangely when the matter came to the notice of the Union Ministry of Power, it told the PDD that there was no need for any consultancy. The matter has been put in cold store. The question is when the PDD itself is not interested in mitigating the difficulties of the consumers why should it blame the consumers that there is pilferage and transmission loss.  PDD cannot sell this story any more. The Government should understand that it is putting the public into very tight position on power count and this can have damaging results at the end of the day. It speaks of inefficiency and incompetence at the level of PDD functionaries. Therefore the Government must take notice of the fact that unless PDD is subject to total overhaul power position may not improve.
