Cable operators asked to ensure 100 percent digitization

Udhampur, Aug 19: The District Administration Udhampur today directed the cable operators of the district to ensure 100 percent cable TV digitization.
Chairing a meeting here today, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Angrez Singh Rana warned them that anyone found running analog signal would be dealt under Section 16 of Cable Act.
The meeting was attended by DIO -NIC Anil K. Sharma, DIO Esha Chib, Prof. Sanjay Kumar from Government Women College Udhampur, Postmaster Udhampur Isher Dass, representative of Municipal Council Udhampur and all cable operators.
The ADC informed that whoever contravenes any provisions of Cable Act would be subjected to imprisonment, extendable to 2 years or with a fine up to Rs. 1000 or both in case of first offence while for the subsequent offence, he may face imprisonment extendable to 5 years and a fine up to Rs 5000.
Pertinently, as per Section 4 A of the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act 1995, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, GoI has made it obligatory for every cable operator to transmit or re-transmit programmes of any channel in an encrypted form through a digital addressable system from December 31, 2015 for phase III areas(areas within municipal limits) and December 31, 2016 for phase IV areas -the rural areas.
