The new look cabinet, it is expected, will give a further momentum to development process under taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Cabinet reshuffle underlines the fact that the Prime Minister is satisfied with the working of his Cabinet Ministers. Of the five dropped, not one had Cabinet rank or had been a Minister with independent charge.
Before the reshuffle, rumurous were rife that the rejig is aimed at giving more representation to legislators from Uttar Pradesh which is going to polls next year. Though, three legislators from UP have been inducted, it does not in any way underscore preference for UP. Besides, through expansion, the Government has sought to give more representation to schedule caste and schedule tribe members. It is a step towards social balance.
The expansion also underscores the fact that the pressure of its allies is nowhere seen. This way, the Prime Minister has asserted his authority to take the country on the path he has envisioned for it.
