JAMMU, Oct 10: State Cabinet today directed Principal Secretary, Finance Department, B B Vyas to hold deliberations with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and other business bodies of Jammu on the issue of VAT deposits and returns in order to sort out the issue within shortest possible time.
According to the sources, Minister for Housing and Horticulture, Raman Bhalla raised this issue in the Cabinet and stressed that there should not be any discrimination in VAT deposits and returns as business community across the State has suffered badly due to recent floods.
He was supported by Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, who too voiced concern over the alleged ‘controversial’ SROs issued by the Finance Department regarding concessions in filing VAT returns.
It was stated in the Cabinet that Jammu traders have been indirectly hit by the floods due to blockage of their payments, which was to be received in lieu of the goods supplied in Kashmir.
After deliberations on the issue, Cabinet directed Principal Secretary, Finance Department, B B Vyas to visit Jammu and hold deliberations with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other business bodies to sort out the issue.
Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla also raised the issue of Minority Commission in Jammu and Kashmir. “Our Government should give importance to this issue to consider the long pending demand of the minorities in the State”.
