JAMMU, Sept 1: The Jammu & Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association (BWA) held its meeting at Nanga (in Ramgarh Sector) today which was attended by a majority of the Batwal community members.
In the meeting, an advisory committee was established to function as a think tank for the association and work at its direction. Advisory committee comprised retired Dy CDA G R Kaith (as its Chairman) and retired Tehsildar Sewa Ram Mandi, retired Principal Buti Ram Mandee, retired CMO Dr Girdhari Lal Motan, retired Manager Ramesh Kumar Kaith, Capt Bachan Lal Lakhotra, Capt Hans Raj Targotra, Capt Kamal Chand Motan, Capt Kamal Dass Kaith, Capt Darbari Lal Sargotra, Puran Chand Kaith, Sub Maj Gunni Ram Kaith, Sub Baldev Chand Sandhu and Hav Des Raj Kaith (as its members).
Advisory Committee shall provide expertise to the association in the manner and form requested by it.
Addressing the gathering, the association general secretary R L Kaith stressed on eradication of social evils prevalent in the Batwal community which have resulted in weakening it and creating a sense of inferiority complex and inadequacy in its members. He also felicitated the meritorious students and stressed on spread of literacy in the community.
Claiming that the Batwal community has no effective say in the State due to non-representation to them, the association members alleged that there was no action on various demands of the community, highlighted through a series of memorandums submitted to the State Government through Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and the Planning & Development Minister Ajay Sadhotra.
The association demanded ‘Special Economic-cum-Employment Package’ on the basis of survey report of the Ethnographic Study of Batwal community undertaken by the Central Planning Commission in 1994 at the behest of the then Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao.
The prominent among those who attended the meeting were Thoru Ram Mandee, Girdhari Lal Kaith, Sham Lal Chanjotra, Rajinder Kumar Motan, Harbans Lal Bassa, Karam Chand Nandan, Girdhari Lal Chanjotra, Anchal Dass Motan, Raj Kumar Nandan, Tarsem Lal Motan and Bittu Kaith.
