Businessman pays Rs 50 lakh tax after IT action

JAMMU, June 28: A businessman of Sunderbani town today paid Rs 50 lakh tax following survey in his establishments by the Income Tax Department.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that yesterday a team of Income Tax Department led by Income Tax Officer Romesh Sharma under the supervision of Additional Commissioner S K Sharma conducted survey in the business establishments of Jugal Kishore Gupta in Sunderbani town and impounded several incriminating documents.
During the scrutiny of the documents it came to the fore that businessman, who deals in ready-made garments, was suppressing his income during the past quite long time and by utilizing the concealed income he had raised four storey commercial building.
Finding himself in the dock, the businessman today paid Rs 50 lakh tax to the Income Tax Department, sources said.
They disclosed that many more businessmen in Rajouri and Poonch districts are under the radar of the Income Tax Department and action against them will be taken in the near future.
“The businessmen in these districts are under the impression that they will continue to dodge the Income Tax Department but now they will face the music for indulging in tax evasion as a long list of such persons has already been drafted by the department”, sources said.
