SRINAGAR, Apr 15: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today assured the business and industrial community of Government’s help in solving the problems they are confronting in reviving their businesses, in wake of September 2014 floods.
He said the Valley’s business sector was deeply impacted when Jhelum violated its embankments last year, causing widespread devastation.
Mufti Sayeed said this while interacting with various delegations affiliated to business and industrial fraternity, here today. Minister for Public Works, Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Syed Altaf Bukhari was also present on the occasion.
Those who met the Chief Minister included delegations from Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation, Kashmir Economic Alliance and Federation Chamber of Industries, Kashmir.
Reiterating his commitment to facilitate the revival of the business and industrial sectors which were derailed by floods, the Mufti Sayeed said the new Government has initiated various steps to provide succour to the community. He said in his first meeting with the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in New Delhi, he raised prominently the issue of compensation for victims of 2014 disaster.
Referring to the Government’s resolve to compensate all the sectors affected by last year’s deluge, Chief Minister said the uninsured tiny traders have been provided seed money to enable them to re-establish their small business activities. He said the Government is examining several other proposals to handhold the business and industrial segments in the State.
The trader delegations, which had representation from all the districts of the Valley including Srinagar, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kupwara and Sopore, presented their memoranda to the Chief Minister. Their demands included a revival package for business sector, announcement of a new industrial policy and package of incentives, improvement of inter and intra-district road connectivity, repair of damaged bridges and up-gradation of health infrastructure.
Mufti Sayeed assured the delegations that he will look into their genuine demands and hold meetings to resolve their issues on priority.
