Burglary case cracked, stolen property of Rs 6.60 lakh recovered

JAMMU, Feb 22: Police cracked a theft case within 24 hours with the arrest of two thieves and recovery of stolen property worth Rs 6.60 lakh.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) South Sandeep Choudhary, a complaint was lodged by Chetan Dogra with Police Station Gandhi Nagar stating that during the intervening night of February 20 and 21, some unknown persons entered into his house and decamped with Rs 6.60 lakh.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 46/18 under Sections 457 and 380 RPC was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigation started.
Choudhary stated that special efforts were made to utilize the golden hours to identify the thief as soon as possible, adding that on the basis of the CCTV analysis, out of two persons involved in the burglary one was identified as Ravi, son of Swami Raj, a resident of Nagri, district Doda, at present Gurha Brahmana Bantalab.
On the basis of this, a special team led by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector. Sunil Singh Jasrotia and incharge police post Digiana SI Sandeep Chauhan was formed, which nabbed the accused Ravi and his associate identified as Umar Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, a resident of Laxmi Puram Chinore, SP Sandeep Choudhary said, adding that on their disclosure, stolen property worth Rs 6.60 lakh were recovered.
SP further added that sincere efforts during golden hours after theft and utilization of CCTV footage were instrumental in this recovery. He appealed to the general public to install CCTV cameras in their mohallas, shops and main roads as CCTV cameras play key role in identifying culprits and become great deterrence to wrong-doers.
SP South informed that the further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain their involvement in other theft cases.
