50 BSF men, 12 from SKPA among 80 positive in Udhampur
Spike in Ladakh too, 58 infected by COVID

JAMMU, Aug 1: A senior bureaucrat, a Judicial Officer, 50 BSF jawans of State Training Centre (STC) Udhampur, 12 police personnel including 11 Sub Inspectors from Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) and 13 CRPF men from 187 battalion in Udhampur, 20 Bihari labourers from Chinore Farm near Kanachak and four persons from Kunjwani in Jammu district, eight members of two families in Kishtwar, four contacts of a private bank employee in Samba and a cancer patient in Poonch were among 223 persons who tested positive for Coronavirus in Jammu region today while complete weekend shutdown was observed in four districts of Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua and Rajouri and majority parts of Samba district today.
On first day of second weekly lockdown, Udhampur district today witnessed single day highest 80 Corona positive cases including 50 BSF jawans from the STC at Roun and 12 police personnel from SKPA Udhampur, 11 of them Probationary Sub Inspectors and one Special Police Officer (SPO), District Magistrate Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla told the Excelsior.
He said 13 CRPF personnel from 187 battalion of the CRPF have also reported Corona positive in Udhampur today.
The District Magistrate said the STC Roun BSF has been contained as some BSF personnel there had reported positive earlier also.
A PSI had tested positive at the SKPA Udhampur earlier after which 200 police trainees were sampled and today 11 PSIs and an SPO reported positive for the virus. More police trainees have been quarantined for sampling. A total of 650 trainees had returned to SKPA Udhampur recently.
Two persons from Kaimbal Danga and one each from Madha Chenani and Ramnagar also tested positive in Udhampur district. The Ramnagar positive had travel history of Patna while three others were contacts of positive persons.
Fifty two persons including 28 with no travel history tested positive in Jammu district today. They include 20 labourers, all Biharis, from Chinore Farm in Kanachak area and four persons from Kunjwani.
A total of 63 labourers had reached Chinore Farm for cultivation of crops on July 22 and three of them had reported positive after sampling on July 24, sources said, adding their contact tracing was done and more labourers were sampled during which 20 workers from Bihar reported positive for the virus today. They have been shifted to COVID hospitals.
Police parties from Kanachak led by SHO Inspector Ravi Parihar have contained Quarter Area of the Chinore Farm.
Other positives from Jammu district were four persons from Kunjwani including 60 and 77 years old women and 46 and 65 years old men, a middle-aged man from Arnia, a youth from Talab Tillo, 32-year-old from Sidhra, one-year-old female baby from Channi Himmat, youth from Khour Akhnoor, 32-year-old from Talab Tillo, 56-year-old woman from Toph Sherkhanian, 49-year-old from Purkhoo Camp, 22-year-old from Bahu Fort, 25-year-old from Gangyal, 31-year-old from Kissan Ghar, 60-year-old from Toph Sherkhanian, middle-aged man from Belicharana, youth from Channi Rama, , one-year-old child from RS Pura, 35-year-old from Paloura Top, 41-year-old from Sohanjana, 33-year-old from Gagian, 28-year-old youth from Sanjay Nagar, 50-year-old woman and 35-year-old man from Christian Colony. 50-year-old from Nagrota, 35-year-old from Gho Manhasan and 45-year-old from Janipura.
A senior bureaucrat was among 19 persons who reported Corona positive today in Doda district.
The bureaucrat had returned to his house in Doda for celebration of Eid festival on leave from Kashmir and was tested for the infection on Thursday. He reported positive today.
Other positives of Doda including shopkeepers from Thathri and Assar, a CRPF jawan, a female and rest travelers from various parts of the country.
SSP Samba Shakti Pathak told the Excelsior that five persons today tested Corona positive in the district including four contacts of an Axis Bank staffer at Gurha Slathia. They were father, sister and two neighbours of the Bank employee, hailing from Gurha Slathia. The fifth positive of the district was a 29-year-old youth from Vijaypur, also a contact of positive person
Eight persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Poonch district. They include a Judicial Officer posted in Reasi district who had come to his house on leave at Bhati Dhar, Mendhar. A 30-year-old woman from Dundak, who is a cancer patient and a police constable who had come to house on leave at Sandote besides two BSF jawans also reported positive in Poonch.
Rest of the positives were travelers.
Eighteen persons including two IRP 2nd personnel, a Patwari and a SPO tested Corona positive in Rajouri district, SSP Chandan Kohli said.
Other positives of the district hailed from Sunderbani (3), Dassal (2), Nowshera (2) and Dhanore (1).
Eight persons belonging to two families of Kishtwar town, two of them women, who had gone for treatment in Amritsar, tested positive on their return.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara said a total of 11 persons of two families had returned from Amritsar after treatment and eight of them tested positive for the virus.
Of 10 persons who tested positive in Reasi district, one of them was a four-year-old girl from Ward No. 2. A 19-year-old boy from Bhagodass Chassana and 20-year-old youth from Manjikote Chassana also reported positive. Both of them had travel history of Haryana. A 45-year-old patient tested positive in District Hospital Reasi.
Six other positives of Reasi district were travelers.
Eight persons tested COVID positive in Kathua district. They include sister of a positive person from Ward No. 8, two other contacts of positives and rest travelers.
Two persons-one traveler and another local-reported positive in Ramban district today.
Ninety six persons were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region including 30 in Doda district, 22 Ramban, 17 Jammu, 14 Rajouri, nine Kathua, three Udhampur and one in Reasi district.
With today’s positives, Jammu region’s Corona tally has reached 4589, as per the official figures. There were, however, 1962 active cases as 2599 patients have recovered from the virus while there have been 28 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh also witnessed spike in Corona cases with 58 persons testing positives today. While 25 cases were reported from Leh district, 33 were from Kargil.
With this, Ladakh’s Corona tally has reached 1462—636 in Leh and 826 in Kargil. Of them, 347 were active cases—250 in Leh and 97 in Kargil. As many as 1108 corona patients have recovered in Ladakh while there were seven casualties.
Of total positives, 42 were admitted in COVID hospitals, 126 were in home isolations, 48 in COVID Care Centres and 126 in Facility Isolation.
