JAMMU, Dec 18: Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari, today reviewed the progress of disaster management measures in a meeting with Deputy Commissioners of all district via video conference, here.
During the meeting, the Minister said it is important that we are prepared to address any emergency situation arising out of natural disasters. He said that the Deputy Commissioners as Chairmen of DDMAs are required to be appropriately equipped to handle any such situation.
Pertinently in an earlier meeting held in August this year, it was decided that Government will established Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) at the Divisional as well as District level in the State to deal with any such eventuality with appropriate and immediate response.
In the meeting extensive discussion was held on the status of identification of suitable, accessible and elevated land for setting up of such EOCs at divisional level in Jammu and Srinagar and at district level in all districts of the State.
The meeting also discussed measures taken for making temporary EOCs functional as an immediate requirement in all districts.
The Minister also sought details with regard to identification of buildings at Srinagar and Jammu for establishment of EOCs at Divisional Level and identification of land adjacent to airport for stocking and storing disaster management equipment and where a team of NDRF can also be stationed.
The Minister also asked Commissioner Secretary, Relief and Rehabilitation, Naveen Choudhary to work out details with regard to requirement of equipment that will be common to all districts.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon informed that land for setting up EOCs has been identified in all the districts of Kashmir division and a consolidated report on the same will be submitted to the administrative department of Relief and Rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioners of all districts also gave details with regard to status of capacity building in terms of infrastructure and equipment, upgradation of communication system, identification and mapping of specific disaster prone regions and preparation of Disaster Response Master Inventory in their respective districts.
