Anticipating early Lok Sabha elections and re-introducing her social-engineering formula, Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati today announced first list of 36 Lok Sabha candidates of the party in Uttar Pradesh with giving 50 per cent of the tickets to Brahmin candidates.
Surprisingly, the BSP, which claimed itself as a secular party, has fielded Ayodhya demolition accused and former Shiv Sena legislator Pawan Pandey from all important Sultanpur seat from where BJP general secretary Varun Gandhi is expected to contest. CBI had chargesheeted Pawan Pandey and his trial was still continuing.
The list also contains six sitting Lok Sabha members and one Rajya Sabha member of the party.
R K Choudhury, who had recently rejoined the party has been given ticket from Mohanlalganj seat in Lucknow while Umeed Singh, husband of dacoit Phoolan Devi would be contesting from Shahjahanpur.
Ms Mayawati addressing a press conference at the residence of her party’s general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra, tried to follow the social engineering formula when her party came to power with Brahmin support in 2007 assembly elections. Incidentally, she had held a Press conference at the same place in 2006 to unfold the the dalit-brahmin combination which proved to be a success later on.
“Brahmins were misguided during the 2012 assembly elections but now they are again with the BSP along with other upper caste,” she said while disclosing that surprising results are expected in UP during the Lok Sabha elections.
Reiterating her demand for reservation to poor of the upper caste, the BSP supremo said that the Centre should reconsider her party’s demand to give reservation to the poor of the upper caste.
Former UP minister and accused in a disproportionate assets case Rakeshdhar Tripathi has been given ticket from Mirzapur. He had contested that assembly elections as Independent and even lost his deposit in 2012 polls.
Senior BSP leader Ramveer Upadhaya’s wife Seema, who is a sitting MP from Fatehpur Sikri has been re-nominated from the same seat while his MLC brother Mukul Upadhaya has been given ticket from Ghaziabad seat, which is currently represented by BJP president Rajnath Singh.
Ms Mayawati, commenting on giving tickets to some leaders who refused to contest the assembly elections, said they had refused the assembly tickets as they wanted to give their hundred per cent in the Lok Sabha elections.
Former UP minister Nakul Dubey has been given ticket from Lucknow seat while Rajya Sabha member Brajesh Pathak would contest from Unnao seat. The other sitting Lok Sabha members getting the tickets are Kushal Tiwari( Khalilabad), Rakesh Pandey(Akbarpur),Gorakhnath Pandey( Bhadoi) and Kapilmuni Kanwariya(Phoolpur).
In Deoria Lok Sabha seat, BSP has replaced the sitting MP G P Jaiswal with Kamlesh Shukla.
The other candidates are Kashinath Shukla(Maharajganj), Brajlal Khabri(Orai),Anil Shukla Warsi(Kanpur Dehat),Sangam Mishra( Kushinagar) Ms Anuradha Sharma(Jhansi), Kamla Rawat(Barabanki), Suresh Pasi( Kaushambi), Sunil Mishra (Kannauj), Kunwar Chandra Vakil(Agra), Ramesh Gautam(Bahriach), Virendra Pandey(Ballia), Ajay Pal Jatav(Etawah), V P Saroj(Machilishahr),Ashok Rawat(Mishrikh), Sadal Prasad( Basgaon),Arvind Giri( Lakhimpur), Pradeep Jatav(Bulandshahr), Manoj Soni(Hatras), Girish Chandra( Nagina), Shiv Prasad Verma( Hardoi), Sharda Prasad( Robertsganj) and K K Ojha( Kaiserganj)> (UNI)
