BSP celebrates birth anniversary of Shahuji

JAMMU, June 26: State unit of  Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) organized a function in connection with the 139th birth anniversary of Chhatterpati Shahuji Maharaj at its party office, Narwal Pain, Satwari today.
State president of  the party Tulsi Dass Langeh presided over the function. The BSP leaders profusely garlanded the portrait of  Shahuji and paid their rich tributes. While speaking on the occasion, the BSP president dwelt in length about the life and mission of  Chhatterpati Shahuji Maharaj. He was born on June 26, 1874 and his father Appa Sahib Gatke was the ruler of Kolhapur State in Maharashtra. Mother’s name was Radha Bhai. His childhood name was Yaswant. In the age of  12,  he became the ruler.
The speakers during the function threw light on the life and services of the Shahuji and described him as a most popular ruler of that time who tried to serve the poor and down trodden members of the society.  He made law for widow marriage and inter-caste marriages.  They also referred to his association with Dr B R Ambedkar.
Prominent among those present in  the function  included R L Chargotra, Raksh wazir, Ex-MLA Som Nath, A K Manawa, Ajaib Singh Mottan, D B Thapa, Dr Harjeet, D S Bhagat  and Pritam Chand.
