BSF warns increased infiltration ahead of spring

Srinagar, Mar 8: With the onset of spring and melting of snow, Border Security Force (BSF) today warned of increased infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) but said it along with Army is alert to tackle it.
Inspector General (IG), Subsidiary Training Centre (STC), BSF, Sushil Kumar Shinde, told reporters here that the infiltration of militants increases after melting of snow. “Definitely after melting of snow, infiltration increases because during snow accumulation, it is difficult for them (militants) to cross the LoC. But after melting of snow, the infiltration increases…,” he said on the sidelines of a passing-out-parade at STC Humhama on city outskirts.
However, the IG BSF said that the infiltration could be prevented through alertness of Army and BSF. “Our alertness accordingly increases and (as a result) we are successful in securing our borders,” he said and added that as far as preparation (to tackle infiltration) is considered, they are always ready (to curb militant infiltration).
“You must perhaps know that our borders comprise of Line of Control and International Border. The BSF is completely doing its duty on IB and there is no deployment of Army. But on LoC, the BSF along with Army together perform duty and we deploy all our equipments and weapons so that whenever we receive any information about infiltration, we check that through our special equipment so that we can act accordingly,” the IG said.
The IG BSF further said that there are lots of training camps on the other side of border in Pakistan. “There are lots of training camps and it depends how many boys they have trained for infiltration. I have not kept any track,” he said, when asked about the number of militants waiting to infiltrate.
Asked about his comments on increasing trend of local Kashmiri boys joining militant ranks in Kashmir, IG Shinde said: “I will suggest them to cooperate in nation building and development instead of doing those things (taking to militancy) which in the future won’t yield anything.”
Earlier, in a colourful attestation parade at BSF STC in Humhama, 126 trained constables today took oath to serve the country. On the occasion, IG, STC, BSF Kashmir, Sushil Kumar Shinde, took salute of well turned out parade. A BSF spokesman said these 126 trainees’ successfully completed 44 weeks of rigorous basic training in which they were put through various dimensions and aspects of training, involving physical fitness and mental robustness, effective use of arms, map reading and “respect for human rights to become a true borderman to carry forward the legacy of elite BSF”.
