JALANDHAR: The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major attempt of Pakistani smugglers to push drugs and ammunition into the Indian Territory, the force said here on Sunday.
A Spokesperson of Punjab Frontier’s BSF Headquarters said that the alert troops of BSF deployed in the area observed suspicious movements of some persons ahead of the border security fence on Saturday and challenged them. The suspects, after being challenged, fled towards the Pakistani territory.
During search of the area, the troops seized five cold drink plastic bottles filled with contraband, suspected to be heroin, weighing five kg. Besides, a nine mm caliber pistol, one magazine and four cartridges were recovered from the area of responsibility of 14 Bn of BSF in Ferozepur sector.
Value of the seized heroin is said to be Rs 25 crore in the international market.
Till today, the BSF has recovered 137.194 kg heroin, having value of Rs 685.97 crore in the international market. BSF had also apprehended 44 border crossers, besides four intruders during the current calendar year till today, the Spokesperson added. (AGENCEIS)
