JALANDHAR, Mar 11: BSF troops thwarted a major evil design of the Pakistani smugglers to sneak a big haul of drugs into Indian territory late last night and recovered 40 kg of heroin having a value of Rs 200 crore in the international market.
Alok Kumar Tomar, Inspector General, BSF, Punjab Frontiers HQ and MM Faroogue, DIG, sector HQ Amritsar in a joint press conference told mediapersons at Amritsar that the BSF jawans on patrol duty observed movements of some suspicious persons in the BOP area Rattan Khurd in Amritsar sector and challenged the miscreants.
The miscreants instead of paying heed to warning of the troops fired some shots. The troops retaliated the firing following which they fled towards Pakistan side.
During search of the area, the troops seized 40 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin. This is the second big haul of contraband seized at the Punjab border by the BSF troops in a fortnight. Earlier on February 24, the BSF troops had seized 10 packets of heroin from the BOP Raja Taal area in Amritsar sector. (UNI)
