Srinagar, Sept 9: A Border Security Force (BSF) officer and a jawan were injured when Pakistan troops fired at an Indian post in Nowgam sector of Handwara area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
Officials said that Pakistan troops targeted India’s Hera Left Post at Toot Maari Gali (TMG) sector also called Nowgam sector at 11.30 am today. Two BSF men including an officer were injured.
The injured have been identified as Sub-Inspector Jawaharlal Singh and Constable Rahul Yadav of 119 Battalion. They were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The BSF also retaliated and the firing continued for about half-an-hour. However, there are no reports of casualties on the other side of the LoC.
Hizbul Mujahideen today claimed that its Border Squad killed two BSF men and decamped with their sophisticated rifles in Nowgam Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this morning.
It may be mentioned here that a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of Army was injured yesterday at the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector when he stepped over a landmine.
The JCO stepped over a landmine at the LoC in Nowgam sector during a regular patrol. The land mine was part of a mine field planted by the army and it had drifted due to landslide. It went off when the JCO accidentally stepped over it, blowing up his leg. He was airlifted to 92-Badami Bagh Base Hospital in Srinagar, where his limb was amputated.
And in Tanghdar sector of the LoC in the frontier district of Kupwara, Army this evening opened fire after they noticed suspicious movement near the LoC with Pakistan. The firing continued for over an hour but no one was killed or injured in the firing. The Army has laid ambushes in the area and cordoned it.The searches will be conducted in the morning.
Army also fired during Sunday night in Tanghdar sector after they noticed suspicious movement near the LoC. However, in the morning during searches nothing was found.
Reports said that there is increased activity of infiltrators along the LoC in Kupwara district and Army has also intensified its patrolling, vigil and searches.
And tonight, militants fired at one Taimurul Ayub at Rehmatabad in Rafiabad area of Sopore in district Baramulla. He was injured in the leg and has been referred to hospital for treatment.
Militants fled under the cover of darkness and police and Army rushed to the area and conducted searches, however, no one was arrested.
Army’s 22, 32 RR and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police Rafiabad have cordoned off the area and are searching for the militants responsible for the attack.
