Srinagar, July 9: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed today in a sniping incident by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. An army jawan injured last evening in militant firing at Shopian succumbed while a cop was injured in a shooting incident today at Shopian in South Kashmir.
Sources said that constable Krishan Kumar Dubey (belt No: 13312690) of BSF 119 battalion was killed when Pakistani troops fired three sniper shots at him at Karam picket in Nowgam sector of Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara.
The incident took place at around 6 p.m. and Army and BSF posted in the area fired back. The exchange of gunfire continued for at least half an hour.
Pakistani troops on Sunday killed a BSF man of same battalion in the same Nogam sector.
Sources said that the sniping is done by the Pakistani special forces along the LoC. Earlier, they used to target BSF men in Rajouri and Poonch sectors with snipers.
In the meantime, a policeman was injured after gunmen opened fire at him near Court Complex in Shopian district of South Kashmir this morning.
Mohammad Ashraf Akhoon, a constable (Belt No. 706/Spn) who was performing his duties near court complex in the district when gunmen attacked him from point blank range. In the attack, the cop sustained bullet injuries.
Akhoon, a resident of Harwan, Srinagar was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment where his condition is said to be stable.
Soon after the attack police and Army launched searches in the area to nab the attackers.
And a soldier, who was critically injured last night’s attack at Imam Sahab area of Shopian in South Kashmir, succumbed to injuries late last night.
Army’s 62 RR and SOG had cordoned off the Barbugh village in Imamsahab area following the specific information about the presence of three militants in a house.
As such the joint team of Army and Police cordon the village and the militants opened heavy fire upon them and fled away.
A soldier, Anesh Kumar, was seriously injured. He was immediately shifted to Army’s 92 base hospital at Srinagar. He succumbed to injuries late last night.
Security forces continued the operation during the night and in the morning it was left after searches of the area found no militant present in the village.
