SHILLONG:The Border Security Force (BSF) today handed over a fresh list of 39 militant camps operating in Bangladesh to the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB), urging to dismantle them. ‘The list of 66 camps was submitted as per information derived from the intelligence.
They (BGB) have assured us of taking action based on our inputs provided to them, BSF Spokesperson Sushil Kumar Singh said. The list was handed to the BGB during the four-day binnual border co-ordination meeting between the BSF Inspectors General, and BGB Region Commanders, held here.
Mr Singh said the list consists of hideouts/transit camps of the militant groups which include the Ulfa (anti-talk), NDFB (Songbijit faction), HNLC, PLA and other groups operating from across the border. He said the camps are located in areas under Mymensing, Moulvibazar, Netrakona, Khagrachari, Rangamati, Chittagong Hill Tract and the Kasalong Reserve Forest.
According to the BSF official, the number of militant camps in Bangladesh has dwindled due to the action initiated by the Bangladesh forces.
Meanwhile, the BSF also asked the BGB to adopt stringent steps inpreventing the smuggling of fake Indian currency notes and other narcotics. The BSF also raised the issue of trans-border crimes committed by Bangladesh nationals/criminals inside Indian Territory, Illegal intrusion of Bangladesh nationals into Indian Territory, poaching of Indian natural resources by Bangladesh nationals from Indian Territory, especially from riverbeds, and obstruction to developmental activities on Indian border areas by BGB.
The BGB had asked its Indian counterpart to restrain its border population from killing and injuring unarmed Bangladeshi nationals and trespassing of Indian nationals into Bangladesh territory. (AGENCIES)
