AMRITSAR, Mar 31:
Border Security Force today claimed that its personnel had foiled an infiltration bid from across the border near Attari.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF’s Amritsar Sector, M F Farooqui, said a group of intruders attempted to sneak into the country at Doake village near Attari border in the wee hours of yesterday, but retreated after being challenged by BSF personnel.
Farooqui said a night patrolling team of BSF observed some suspicious moments on reaching Doake village near the international border and found that a group of nearly seven miscreants were attempting to push something into the Indian territory.
On being challenged, the miscreants fired at the BSF personnel, who too fired 24 rounds in retaliation.
Farooqui said seeing heavy firing by the BSF personnel the miscreants retreated taking advantage of darkness.
He added that nothing has so far been recovered from the site during a massive search operation that continued till today noon.
Farooqui said BSF personnel guarding the borders had been asked to maintain highest vigil in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. (PTI)
