NOWSHERA, July 27: While the body of missing BSF driver (Constable) was recovered from a nallah near the Line of Control in Beri Pattan area this evening, the Dy Commandant Tarun Gupta was still missing.
An extensive search operation jointly by BSF, Army, police, assisted by locals continued throughout the day today for the BSF officer and jawan who were washed away along with a Gypsy in flood-hit Seri nallah in Sunderbani area early Thursday.
A police spokesman said the jawans of 93 battalion of BSF based at Sunderbani, Army divers and police personnel from Sunderbani continued search for the missing bodies on the second consecutive day today. Many villagers also assisted the security force men in the operation. Despite tough efforts the bodies could not be traced till this afternoon. The army drivers even searched for the bodies in the deep water near Beri Pattan, where two nallas join and then flow into POK. A large steel net (Jalla) has also been erected at this point in the nallah by the Indian authorities.
At around 7 pm, a villager managed to trace the body of driver Udhay Kumar of 93 Bn BSF at Nah village near `Julla’ bridge, about 26 kms down stream, near the LoC during operation. The SHO, Sunderbani Navin Angral along with his party shifted the body to Sunderbani hospital for postmortem and performing legal formalities. The body is being sent to his home village in Karnataka.
A senior BSF official said that contact has been established with the Pakistani authorities regarding missing of BSF officer. No information has been received so far from that side. He said the operation will be continued even tomorrow with the help of divers. Officer’s family also reached Sunderbani today.
