BSF cop kills wife, ends life

KATHUA, June 5: A head constable of Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly murdered his third wife and later committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at village Seswan in Chadwal area of Kathua district this morning.
Identified as Neelam Kumar, son of Tej Ram of village Saswan in Chadwal area of Kathua district the cop was found dead at railway track this morning, police said.
Police said the woman, reportedly his third wife, who has been identified as Ritu Devi daughter of Mansoo Ram of village Palahi Basohli was also found dead near constable’s house in his village.
The lady was burnt to death by the cop in wheat straw. Rajbagh police have registered a case against the cop under FIR Number 103, Section 302 RPC and started investigations.
The local people, who saw the dead bodies, informed the police and a police team led by SDPO Border, Ravail Choudhary and SHO Sanjeev Sharma reached the spot along with FSL team and started investigations.
Reports said that both cop who was serving as Head Constable in BSF 97 Bn and the lady had returned to their house in Seswan yesterday evening and this morning the cop reportedly set the lady afire in the wheat straw in the village and later committed suicide by jumping before the train.
When contacted ASP, Kathua Khaleel Poswal told Excelsior that the lady had made some complaints against the cop with the BSF authorities in which she had alleged that the cop was not bearing her expenditures.
He said the BSF cop has another wife who is serving in JKP at Bakshi Nagar Jammu and she has his two children also. He said police has called her and “we will record her statement to investigate the case thoroughly.”
The first wife of the deceased cop was murdered 20 years back by the elder brother of the cop who later also committed suicide. Police said legally the slain lady was not the wife of the cop but they were living together illegally.
