UDHAMPUR, Aug 8: With the arrest of all three accused, Police claimed to have solved the case of blind murder of a 70- year old woman, who was strangulated and then stoned to death at Rasli Gaderan area, under the jurisdiction of Basantgarh Police Station.
Shockingly, one of the murder accused is younger brother of the deceased while two other are her nephews. The trio, identified as Des Raj (49), son of Chandu (brother), Kaka Ram (18), son of Mansa Ram and Sanjay (26), son of Hans Raj, have confessed their crime.
Even as exact reason behind the murder was yet to be ascertained, sources hint that there was an apparent attempt to outrage modesty of the deceased by her nephews (sister’s sons) who later strangulated her to death while the brother tried to shield the duo and mislead investigations.
“Investigations of the case are still under progress and involvement of more accused as well any other angle behind the murder are not ruled out,” said SDPO Ramnagar, G R Bhagat, who led the Police team in solving the case and arrest of the three accused.
The deceased, namely Vakeelan Devi, wife of Lacchu , was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in Rasli Gaderan area of Basantgarh on August 2 and an inquest proceeding under section 174 CRPC was initiated in this regard at PS Basantgarh. The deceased was divorced 30 years ago and she had been living with her sister.
During the course of investigation, the police team examined the spot and collected all circumstantial evidences. On this, various raids were conducted and suspects were rounded up and on sustained interrogation, they confessed to have committed murder, said Police.
Accordingly the case FIR was converted into murder case under section 302 IPC and further investigations are under progress.
