JAMMU, Mar 18: Minister incharge R&B Majid Wani has said that Border Roads Organisation will construct 160 mt long major bridge on Tarnah nallah on old Samba-Kathua road in tehsil Hiranagar.
Replying to a question of Congress legislator from Kathua, Subash Gupta in the Upper House today, Mr Wani said importance of this bridge has already been realized by the Governmnt and a project prepped for this 160 mt long bridge on Tarnah was in the advanced stage of sanction. He assured the member that he will direct his officers to take up the issue with the BRO officers to know about the progress on the project. He claimed that with the construction of this vital bridge the border people of Kathua and Hiranagar will get better road connectivity.
While replying to another question of Mr Gupta the Minister said over 23631.62 kms of road length is being maintained by R&B Department which include 20,526 kms under R&B sector and 3104.92 kms under PMGSY. He pointed out that Old Samba Kathua road has the length of around 50 km and 31 km was under GREF while rest with the R&B.
Replying to another question of Dr Shehnaz Ganai, Mr Wani said a tunnel near Pir ki Gali on Mughal road has been proposed. The DPR has been sent to the Union Government and as and when it is approved, the work on the tunnel will start. With this, Mughal road will become all weather road. Asgar Ali pointed out that many roads under PMGSY in Kishtwar area have been abandoned and lying incomplete. Minister claimed that it was due to some disputes of land, pending Forest clearance and disputes with contractors. Ravinder Sharma and Javaid Rana also raised supplementaries.
