BRM discusses issues concerning Jammu people

JAMMU, May 10: J&K Unit of Bharat Rakhsha Manch (BRM) today discussed various issues and problems being faced by the residents of Jammu region in its meeting held here today under the chairmanship of VK Gupta, president, J&K unit of the Manch.
The issue of deportation of Rohngiyas and Bangladeshi migrants was deliberated in the meeting and it was decided that Government should be approached for making public the action taken in this regard.
The burning issue of the difficulties being faced by the people of Jammu in grant of permanent resident certificates was also discussed and it was resolved that the process of grant of such certificates needs to be simplified.
Alleging discrimination with Jammu region in every field, the speakers resolved that to avoid any further discrimination with the people of Jammu a separate regional council with legislative, executive and financial powers should be created for Jammu.
The speakers also demanded that West Pakistan refugees should be declared permanent residents of J&K even if the amendment in the law has to be made. It was also suggested that civil secretariat must remain functional both at Jammu and Srinagar throughout the year on the pattern of J&K High Court.
The speakers said that one of the important issues which are hurting the people of Jammu is iniquitous limitation of legislative constituencies causing raw deal to the people of Jammu. They said that immediate action needs to be taken for constituting Delimitation Commission headed by a Supreme Court Judge on the basis of 2011 census and the lame excuses of amendment in Constitution be not given.
