Srinagar, Mar 12: The District Administration Budgam today seized a brick kiln in the district for the violation of the Government-set rates of the bricks while directing the police to lodge an FIR against the violator.
In this regard, an order that was issued stated that a complaint was received from one Sakib Altaf from Srinagar against M/S Star BDB Brick Kiln, from Chandapora, Budgam stating that he was sold bricks on exorbitant rates apart from the same being of poor quality.
The order stated that both the parties were called and their statements were recorded. “It has been found that the brick kiln owner(s) have sold the bricks at exorbitant rates and have supplied low-quality material to the complainant,” the order said.
As per the order, the concerned Tehsildar, Budgam has been directed to seize and close the brick kiln (M/S Star BDB Brick Kiln (Brick No. Star 255) Chandapora, Budgam.
“The Station House Officer, P/S Budgam is directed to lodge FIR under section 21 of the Jammu & Kashmir Brick Kilns (Regulation) Act, 2010 against the Brick Kiln owner (M/S Star BDB Brick Kiln (Brick No. Star 255) Chandapora, Budgam),” the order read.
Also, the Brick Kiln owner(s) have been directed to deposit an extra-charged amount in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam.
It is to be noted that charging hefty amounts in total violation of the Government orders is a norm across Kashmir, while there has been no action taken by the administration against such elements.
“There is a need for keeping a check whether the norms are being followed or not; at the same time, the lodgement of the grievances should be made easy so that aggrieved are encouraged to file their complaints,” the complainant told Excelsior.
