JAMMU, Dec 30: In a groundbreaking medical achievement, a 29-year-old patient from Bareilly diagnosed with severe aortic valve regurgitation underwent a successful robotic assisted valve replacement surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi.
The case, managed under the expertise of Dr M M Yusuf and Dr Varun Bansal, Consultants in Cardiology and MICS and Robotic Cardio Thoracic surgery, showcased the transformative impact of advanced robotic technology in patient care.
The patient, experiencing symptoms of shortness of breath, chest pain, severe anaemia, kidney problems, and poor heart function, was admitted on October 26, 2023. Despite the high-risk nature of the surgery and the urgency due to the patient’s deteriorating condition, the surgical team utilized cutting-edge robotic technology for aortic valve replacement.
The innovative approach resulted in very small incisions, reduced pain, and a remarkably speedy recovery. Executed without complications, the surgery showcased the potential of robotic assistance in enhancing patient safety and overall quality of life. Following a brief one-day stay in the ICU and a couple of days in the hospital, the patient returned home.
Dr MM Yusuf and Dr Varun Bansal emphasized the significance of robotic assist Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) in challenging cases.
They stated, “This was an extremely challenging case since the patient’s condition was deteriorating rapidly. Robotic assist AVR is the best and least invasive cardiac surgical procedure. It is a symbiosis between state-of-the-art technology and surgical expertise.”
“It offers great short and long-term benefits by subjecting patients to small cuts, less bleeding, less pain, early recovery, and a quick return to active life, which is a distant target by open chest surgery.” The patient, discharged on November 01, 2023, demonstrated a resolved valve problem, improved heart and kidney function.
