JAMMU, Oct 20: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha today honoured the meritorious students, sports persons and a young IPS of the community for excelling in different fields.
During a well attended function in this regard at the Parshuram Bhawan near Parade Ground, here, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma, presented Medals and Certificate of Honour to the meritorious young personalities, who included IPS Sameer Sharma from Hiranagar, six sports persons and 104 students.
All office bearers of the Sabha, including president Ved Parkash Sharma, prominent citizens and parents of the honoured persons attended the function while Justice (Retd) G D Sharma and Advocate Chander Mohan Sharma were the guests of honour on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering, Sham Lal Sharma exhorted the community members to rise above the party politics and work for overall welfare of the Jammu region and nation. Recalling the great role played by Maharishi Chankya in uniting the society against enemy, he asked the community to become torch bearer for others.
Justice G D Sharma and Chander Mohan Sharma also spoke on the occasion and stressed the need for unity among the community for upliftment of the society, particularly Brahmans.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Ved Parkash Sharma, president of the Sabha, threw light on various activities of the Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha. He said that the Sabha has been organizing such programmes for the last eight years.
The programme, which commenced with Saraswati Vandhna and lighting of the traditional lamp by the guests, was compeered by Ravi Kant Sharma and N C Sharma.
