Boundary talks between India-China likely in March

NEW DELHI : The 18th round of talks between the  Special Representatives of India and China on the boundary  questions is likely to take place in March, when National  Security Advisor Ajit Doval will travel to Beijing.     Last round of talks between the two sides was held on February 10-11 last year.
During the talks, Mr Doval would focus on exchanging maps of Ladakh sector where repeated transgression from Chinese PLA have taken place in the past.
Off late, India has been pushing for demarcation of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the two sides. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, had called for clarifying the LAC.
“While our border-related agreements and confidence building measures have worked well, I also suggested that clarification of Line of Actual Control would greatly contribute to our efforts to maintain peace and tranquility and requested President Xi to resume the stalled process of clarifying the LAC. We should also seek an early settlement of the boundary question,” the Prime Minister has said, after his talks with Mr Xi.     During the talks, a holistic review of bilateral relations is likely to be undertaken.
The Special Representatives would continue their discussions on a framework for a resolution of the Boundary Question, the second of a three-step process earlier agreed to by both sides. This will be based on the Agreement on the Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for the Settlement of the India-China Boundary Question.
The Special Representatives are also likely to review efficacy of the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement, which was signed last year.
