JAMMU, Nov 13: A six- day State level workshop by Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education to develop textual material in Pahari, commenced here today.
Prof Veena Pandita, Chairperson / Secretary BOSE, presided over the inaugural programme while Dr Farooq Anwar Mirza -noted Pahari scholar and Chief Editor Pahari in Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr Yasir Hamid Sirwal, Assistant Director, BOSE and Dr Anuradha Sharma, Academic Officer were in the presidium.
In her address, Prof Veena Pandita stated that main objective of this workshop is to boost Pahari language through the development of textbooks in Pahari. She also said that BOSE is developing, reviewing and revising textbooks in eight regional languages to meet the aspirations of local people. She further stressed upon the inclusion of the contents on moral and value education side by side inculcating regional and cultural ethos in the textbooks.
Dr Farooq Anwar Mirza- convenor of Pahari language for developing textual material / textbooks for BOSE, in his address, said that Pahari deserves more attention from State Board of School Education to get it included in the curriculum upto 12th class. He said speakers of Pahari language are scattered in almost all the districts of the State and cannot read or write other regional languages like Kashmiri, Dogri or Bhoti so it’s essential to provide them education in their mother tongue properly.
The other noted Pahari experts, namely Raja Nazar Bonyari, Dr Jihangir Danish, Imtiyaz Hashmi and Mohd Javed appreciated the BOSE for its fresh initiative and endeavour towards the aspirations of Pahari speaking people.
